Towards Inclusion Project

As part of our Towards Inclusion project, pupils from St. Hilda’s Special School and Transition Year students from Athlone Community College came together to take part in a range of enjoyable and inclusive activities while developing their understanding and use of Lámh signs.

The project provided Transition Year students with an opportunity to be introduced to Lámh and to experience how it can support communication in real-world, everyday interactions. Through shared activities, pupils had opportunities to practise and use Lámh naturally while communicating, playing and working together.

Activities throughout the project included Bee Bots, Seesaw activities, darts, board games, painting, music and singing, with the music sessions proving to be a particular favourite among pupils from both schools.

The overall aim of the project was to encourage inclusion, communication and connection between pupils while highlighting the many different ways people communicate with one another.

Most importantly, the project focused on creating a fun and welcoming environment where everyone could enjoy each other’s company, participate together and build confidence in their communication skills through shared experiences.

We hope you enjoy our showcase video, which captures the enjoyment, laughter and positive experiences shared by pupils throughout the project.
